Secretary of Defense James Mattis continues to break records at an amazing paste! And he just set another one.
Stars and Stripes reports that warplanes of the coalition led by the US dropped more bombs with ISIS on their crosshairs in Iraq and Syria in May than in any previous month, according to the new statistics released from the Pentagon.
According to Stars and Stripes, 4,374 bombs and missiles were released last month. BOOM! Can you imagine that? That’s the first time the number of bombs goes over 4000 since the start of Operation Inherent Resolve in August 2014.
The increase in dropped bombs can be attributed to the increased pace of operations by U.S. backed coalition forces who are fighting ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
The previous high was set in March, when US warplanes dropped 3,878 bombs and missiles targeting ISIS. That was the previous record set by the “Mad Dog”.
Much of the increase in airstrikes last month occurred in Syria in order to support operations to liberate land around Raqqa, the major ISIS stronghold in Syria.
