House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes gave a speech at the Orange County Republican Party’s annual Flag Day Salute dinner, in which he condemned the on-going investigation into President Trump’s ties with Russia. His entire speech was a knock-out, but one sentence was particularly poignant:
“There was never any collusion between Donald Trump and the Russians.”
He went on to urge Democrats to “stop chasing Russian ghosts around the closet” and get on with actually governing the country.
Nunes first broke the story about Obama administration officials spying on the Trump transition team, and had earlier expressed doubts that President Trump was in any way involved with Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
Nunes described the media’s attacks on him after those announcements
I said ‘OK, I don’t think there’s any collusion here.’ And what happened to me? All the major papers in the country did a total character assassination on me. Why? Because I was telling the truth, that there was never any collusion between Donald Trump and the Russians.”
Nunes continued by saying the assault on him was part of a larger media assault on all conservatives:
“Every night there’s a news story that runs that … has something in common. It’s anti-Trump, anti-Republican, and promotes this nonsense that you’re seeing with protesters everywhere. And they continue to promote it, which continues to promote violence.”
You see! The entire Russia investigation has gotten out of hand, and the more evidence that piles up pointing to President Trump’s innocence, the more desperate Democrats are to find literally anything to substantiate their delusions.
