President Trump and a jam-packed East Room hosted the 2017 World Series Champion Houston Astros at the White House today.
This was a momentous occasion because these young men brought hope to the ravaged city of Houston just weeks after Hurricane Harvey barreled down on them leaving a trail of destruction never seen before.
Trump spoke about how much this win meant to the incredible people of this city. He also spoke of all the other heroes that helped the city heal after the devastation.
Mattress Mack, who owns a furniture store opened his store up as a shelter during the hurricane and also gave away tickets to sporting events to people that had lost their homes.
After telling the team how much they meant for the city’s healing, he said something that made everyone burst into laughter and applause.
“When is opening day? Two-and-a-half weeks? Are you nervous?”
The players assured him they are not nervous.
Trump then pointed to the whole team and said “I wouldn’t be.”
The whole room loved it. They all laughed and clapped and thanked Trump for welcoming them to the White House.
It’s refreshing to have a President that can step out of the serious role and into a jovial role where he can laugh and joke with regular American citizens.
