A survivor of the Parkland, Florida shooting last month, in which 17 people were killed and many wounded, headed to Capitol Hill today.
Kyle Kashuv was a student at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School and, contrary to what many of his classmates are doing, believes there are other avenues to solve these problems besides violating the Constitution.
Kashuv has criticized fellow student and staunch gun control advocate David Hogg, who has been making the rounds on media pushing for stricter gun control laws.
Kyle believes we need to address the mental health crisis first and believes that a more involved community can help ward off incidents like these.
Kashuv got the surprise of a lifetime when First Lady Melania Trump wanted to meet with him during his visit so they could discuss his ideas going forward.
Melania Tweeted about the meeting.
“Heartened to see children affected by tragedy using their voices to try and create change. Wonderful to meet and speak with Stoneman Douglas High School student @KyleKashuv today at the @WhiteHouse. His message of unity inspires us all!”
